Pierre Bourdelle Sculpted Art Deco Panel
Pierre Bourdelle (1901-1966) was born in Paris, the son of a famous sculptor, Antoine Bourdelle. He studied under Rodin who had in turn studied under his father, Antoine. He moved to New york in 1929 and began work on large murals and reliefs for architectural projects, including homes but also railway stations. This carved linoleum mural was possibly made circa 1930 for the Grand Central Train Terminal in New York where he depicted underwater scenes. Here a youth appears to be in a dream, battling an underwater serpent.
